💰 Why is Tesla Expensive in India?

India has high import duties on fully built cars that come from outside, which can be 60%-100% of the car's cost. This increases the price for Indian buyers.
Although India has a new policy where electric cars with a value above $35,000 can get a reduced 15% import duty if the company promises to start local manufacturing within 3 years, Tesla has not committed to manufacturing in India at this time. That means Tesla still has to pay high import duties for now.
